ONSBORD: Digital interactive whiteboard for schools.
ONSBORD is the alternative for expensive commercial interactive whiteboards. We've made a digital interactive whiteboard based on J. Chung Lee's idea, specifically intended for use in the classroom. The entire project can be assembled yourself: here you find a expended user manual. The required software can be downloaded for free.
How does it work?
What you need: a standard, a normal beamer and a simple whiteboard. Add the ONSBORD-pachage and using an Infra Rood (IR) pen you're now controlling the computer as if you're holding a mouse.
Connect the ONSBORD-supply to a USB-port of the computer. A power cable connects the power supply to a Nintendo Wii-Mote. Mount the Wii-Mote to the ceiling and aim it to the whiteboard. The required software can be downloaded at Software. At this moment it works with Windows XP/Vista/7, Linux will follow soon.
Whiteboard
There are multiple solutions for a whiteboard. Creating your own whiteboard using a piece of formica or melanine for example. Look at http://krijtbordupgraden.nl. There you have a very nice whiteboard for about € 250,- in your classroom with all the benefits of a standard chalkboard (height adjustment, foldable sideflaps).
Demo preparation
Since the begin of schoolyear 2009 there are two demo preparations in use at the Public Primaryschool Rosa Boekdrukker in Amsterdam. The whiteboard is made of formica with a normal beamer and an upgraded version with an advanced chalkboard and a short throw beamer. |
